On the ground floor and in a room on the first floor, the activities, and places of the presence of the prehistoric communities of nomadic hunters are illustrated, with a section dedicated to palaeobotany and the finds of Palughetto (near Pian del Cansiglio) which preserves the remains of oldest conifers in Europe.

The most conspicuous collection of the Museum offers some historical documents relating both to the Venetian domination which lasted almost four centuries (1420-1797), and to the presence of the Cimbri ethnic linguistic minority, with panels and cards on forestry activities, the preparation of coal and processing of timber.
There are numerous tools on display that were used to transform the magnificent beech trees of the centuries old Cansiglio Forest into the famous oars that moved the great Venetian “galleys”, huge boats feared by the fleets of the entire Mediterranean.

The story of the arrival and life of the Cimbrian community, which arrived in Cansiglio at the end of the eighteenth century from Roana (Asiago plateau, VI), is told through historical images of the villages, the faces of the “Cimbri boxers”, the tools used once and still today for the processing of wood and some tools produced by the Cimbri themselves such as the famous “scatoi”, circular containers for storing cheese and food.

In these rooms you can also discover the Cimbrian language, a German dialect currently spoken by a few Cimbri, thanks to the bilingual captions and see some films that revive the history of this German-speaking population and discover the secrets of the magnificent Cansiglio Forest populated by many animals, first of all the deer.
A mezzanine in the attic houses a library dedicated to the Cimbrian population commissioned and organized by the Cimbri del Cansiglio cultural association.

Opening time

The MUC, included in the network of Alpago and Cansiglio Museums and Sites, is open from June to September.

The collection is divided into sections: the most conspicuous dedicated to the Great War, another concerning the Second World War and the last designed to narrate some moments of the most recent military history.
The objects, sorted by type, are displayed in chronological order; a very rich collection where the daily story of men and women is told through their uniforms, field equipment, weapons, documents, and some dioramas that reconstruct moments of life during the Great War as an Austrian shelter and an Italian infirmary point.
