The main purpose of the “Associazione culturale Cimbri del Cansiglio is the recovery of the historical and cultural heritage of the Cimbri, population of the Cansiglio’s forest.
It has equipped itself with the coat of arms using the same as the municipalities of origin which are those of the Asiago plateau.
Inside, work tools are reproduced, and printed in the corners are the initials of the four Cimbrian families that first arrived in Cansiglio: Azzolini-Gandin-Slaviero and Bonato.

The Cimbri del Cansiglio Cultural Association takes care of the “Museo dell’uomo in Cansiglio” and provides a free guide upon request.
The museum was built inside what were the elementary schools of the Cansiglio Forest, active until the 1960s, in the Cimbrian village of Pian Osteria.
It consists of three sections, one of which is dedicated to the recent and older use of forest timber, with panels and models dedicated to the various woodworking (a cableway, the “pojat” for making coal, the small railway from the beginning of the century and with showcases that expose tools of the so-called “masteleri”).
A large room is dedicated to the culture and craft activities of the Cimbri, with photographs, panels, work tools and products of the Cimbri box makers. A large central model represents the entire Cansiglio plateau.
A third section dedicated to the administration of the Forest by the Maritime Republic of San Marco in the period from 1400 to the end of 1700, when it fell under the influence of Napoleon.
On display are various historical maps of what used to be called the rowing wood of San Marco administered by the Council of Ten, which supplied the oars to the powerful Venetian fleet.
A last room is dedicated to the library and the projection of videos regarding both Cansiglio and Cimbrian culture.
The Museum will be subject to renovation and expansion, to allow the display of finds from the archaeological excavations of Palughetto, Malga Lissandri and Bus de la Lum.
